Restylane® and Juvéderm™
Restylane® and Juvéderm™ are dermal fillers containing non-animal-based hyaluronic acid, a natural substance already present in your body. Small amounts of Restylane® or Juvéderm™ are injected into the skin with a very fine needle, adding volume underneath the area. The injections add shape and smooth out wrinkles.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How quickly do Restylane® and Juvéderm™ take effect? Results can generally be seen immediately.

  • How long do Restylane® and Juvéderm™ last? Studies show that Restylane's® effects generally last about 6 months, although results may last longer in some patients. Some evidence shows that Juvéderm™ may provide longer lasting results, but this has not been conclusively proven.

  • Is the procedure painful? Most people find the injections cause a small amount of discomfort. To help maximize patient comfort, we apply a topical anesthetic prior to the treatment and ice packs after.

  • How long does the treatment take? Total time in the office is about one and one half hours. We ask patients to arrive one hour before their appointment times to apply the anesthetic and allow it to take effect. The injection treatment takes about an additional half-hour.

  • Who should not have Restylane® or Juvéderm™ injections? Patients who are pregnant breastfeeding, or under the age of 18 should not have Restylane® or Juvéderm™ treatments.

  • How do I prepare for the treatment? Avoid the use of St. John's Wort, Vitamin E supplements, aspirin, and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen for one week before the treatment, unless you are taking them on the advice of a doctor. Patients on aspirin therapy may experience increased bruising in the treatment site.

  • Are there side effects to the treatment? You may experience temporary bruising, redness and swelling at the injection site. These effects typically resolve within seven days.

  • What do I do after the treatment? Most people resume all normal activities immediately, although for the first 6 hours following the treatment you should avoid alcohol and exercise. Complete post-treatment instructions will be provided at your appointment.
