Chemical Peels

Time, age, and the environment all have an effect on our skin, and many people search for ways to try to improve the appearance of facial skin. If you are looking for a way to get younger-looking skin and improve the appearance of certain kinds of fine lines, blemishes, dark spots, and other common complaints, a chemical peel may work for you.

Chemical peels are a cosmetic process that can help reduce certain skin problems and the effects of the environment on the skin. They are particularly useful in helping refresh and rejuvenate the skin on the face, though some chemical peels can also be used on the neck and hands.

Chemical peels cannot help the appearance of deep wrinkles or tighten loose or sagging skin, but they can be of help for a host of other common problems, such as:

  • Acne and acne scars
  • Brown spots on skin, sometimes called age spots
  • Fine lines and fine wrinkles
  • Freckles
  • Issues with skin pigmentation or uneven coloring
  • Rough skin or skin that has a scaly texture
  • Some superficial scars
  • Signs of sun damage

Chemical peels are done in both our Norwood offices, as well as in our Foxboro and Franklin offices.  All peels are done by our trusted skin care specialists, so you will never have to worry about safety. During your free consultation your skin care specialist will explain everything you need to do to prepare for your peel and will determine the most appropriate chemical peel for your skin, ensuring optimal results.

Here at Dermatology Associates, we offer both SkinMedica Vitalize and Rejuvenize Peels.

The SkinMedica Vitalize Peel is designed to treat mild to moderate skin imperfections and most first time patients will start off with this peel. It can help smooth the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, while improving the texture of rough skin. Minimal results are visible after one treatment, but optimal results are seen after three to six peels – peel series are offered at a discounted price.

The SkinMedica Rejuvenize Peel is suited for patients with moderate to severe skin imperfections. It is designed to smooth the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and improve the roughness of skin. Patients can expect to see minimal results after just one peel, with optimal results after three to six chemical peels – peel series are offered at a discounted price.

The process of the peel is very simple and recovery from a chemical peel depends on the depth of your peel. Light peels usually reveal results in a just a few days recovery. Your peel depth and what you can expect during recovery is something that your skin care specialist will discuss with you in detail so that you are fully prepared. It is important to note that peeling is a side effect of a chemical peel and that not all patients peel from treatment. All peels, however, will result in some redness, tingling, flaking, and skin irritation — this is normal and will decrease over time.
